Welcome to Nursery! Our class teacher is Mrs Willatts and our Teaching Assistant is Mrs Fuller. The children in Nursery all enjoy learning together and it is a very friendly class. We have a wonderful classroom full of continuous provision resources for us to use and you will always find us exploring new resources and doing our best in all the different areas. The Quiet Room is a space for us to go when we need a peaceful place to have some quiet time and our outdoor classroom is fantastic fun; come rain or shine you’ll find us learning more about our world outside!
We have been very busy this term! The children who joined us after Christmas settled in very quickly and we began with our topic of ‘Everyday Superheroes’. We thought all about the different people who help us and even met a paramedic and a police officer! The children made great use of our Hospital role play area and loved taking care of each other.
After half term we have been learning about traditional tales in ‘Once Upon A Time’, and retelling stories such as Goldilocks and the Three Bears and Little Red Riding Hood in our Fairytale Cottage role play area. We really enjoyed dressing up for World Book Day as our favourite characters and talking all about the books we enjoy reading the best.
We have been looking at non-fiction books as a way of finding out information about people who help us and the children are now getting very good at spotting these in our reading corner. During our ‘Once Upon A Time’ topic we have enjoyed listening to a wide range of traditional tales as well as different versions of the same stories. We even made wanted posters for the Big Bad Wolf!
We have started Read Write Inc this term to support us with our phonics and so far the children have been doing very well remembering the phrases and pictures with each letter.
Our main focus has been on shapes this term and the children started the term with a shape hunt to try and find objects in our outside area that were different shapes. We have since used shapes to make pictures of vehicles, create models and even create patterns! We have enjoyed making shapes with elastic bands on the peg boards and we are getting very good at naming them now!
This term we have been learning about our Special Story candle and how it helps us to focus on God when we listen to stories from the Bible. The children have had lots of questions about the life of Jesus and the things he did when he'd grown up from the baby they learned about at Christmas! When thinking about Easter, the children have been enjoying looking for signs of new life in our outside area, and have been noticing the changes that happen in the Spring time.
Coming up in Summer Term...
Next term we will continue our learning about traditional tales and explore the world using our outside area by looking for all creatures great and small! We will be beginning our weekly ‘Share a book’ sessions from Friday 28th April – you are welcome to come and join us at 8:20am and share your favourite books! Next term we will also be starting ‘Squiggle while you Wiggle’ which is designed to support our mark making through fun gross motor dancing activities! We look forward to seeing you soon!
