Pupil Parliament

Pupil Parliament is a way of giving the children of Travis a voice. There are 24 representatives drawn from the classes in KS1 and KS2. Each class votes for their own representatives.

As a member of the Pupil Parliament, children take on an inspiring leadership role within the school community. They lead engaging assemblies on vital topics such as mental health, safeguarding, diversity, and the importance of play. Through these assemblies, they raise awareness and empower their fellow students to speak out about issues that matter most to them.

Pupil Parliament members are the voice of their peers, sharing ideas, concerns, and suggestions with the senior leadership team to help shape the future of the school. They play a key part in organising exciting events and initiatives, bringing the student body together to make a positive impact on both the school and wider community.

Meeting most weeks, they engage in meaningful discussions about issues that affect their school life, encouraging collaboration and ensuring every student’s voice is heard. It’s a role of responsibility, influence and positive change!

Every week, our Pupil Parliament decide a question to pose to their class. We use the online portal: https://smartschoolcouncils.org/ to generate a question or to share our questions. Our Pupil Parliament representatives then facilitate a discussion with their class to gather their opinions. At the end of the week, they work together to collect the answers and then decide on an action. These actions can involve the senior leadership team.

Actions have included:

- meeting with the local council to look at how to improve parking

- creating a calmer walking around school

- planning for quieter spaces around school

- creating litter picking groups

- getting a school dog.
