Year 3
A very warm welcome to Year 3
Y3O Saxon- Miss Oliver and Mrs White
Y3T Edwin - Miss Tembey
Mrs Day, Miss Gamble, Mrs McGhee and Miss Gilberthorpe support in Year 3 throughout the school day.
Miss Tembey - I have taught at Travis since 2015, in year 2, 3 and 4 and have enjoyed every minute. I enjoy reading and creating my own stories. I love drawing and spending time with my two children. We love to go on lots of adventures and explore new places. My favourite football team is Carlisle United and I get to as many games as I can!
Miss Oliver - I am currently in my sixth year of teaching at Travis and absolutely love being part of the school community. Before becoming a teacher, I spent time travelling and also lived and taught in Sydney, Australia. Outside of school, I enjoy reading and going for long walks, usually with my Romanian rescue dog, Mollie. I’m also a proud mum to my one-year-old daughter, Daisy, who keeps me on my toes! I love animals, staying active and being outdoors.
Mrs White - My name is Mrs White and this is my ninth year teaching. Up until recently, I taught in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. My husband and I were there for 6 years and we had the most amazing time travelling, exploring new places and eating all the delicious food. After our son Oscar was born, we decided to move back home to the UK. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, visiting new restaurants and walking with my family.
Reading
Please try to read with your child at least three times a week and record it in their reading record book. This can be the Year 3 recommended read, RWI books or a book from home. It is important to check that, as well as becoming more fluent, the children understand what they are reading, especially as they begin to read longer and more complex books. This can be done by discussing the book afterwards, or during reading. Talk about the characters, setting or main events. Encourage children to develop empathy by focusing on characters' emotions and motivations.
We encourage a love for reading and aim for our children to be lifelong readers. The children are encouraged to read and enjoy the books in our book area within the school day. Children are welcome to bring their own reading book from home as long as it is of an appropriate level for them to read and enjoy independently. Please encourage your child to do this independently. We share core stories at the end of the day sometimes linked to our topic, or one of the Year 3 Recommended Reads and we spend time in the library once a week sharing and enjoying the books in there.
Homework
Homework is sent home weekly on a Monday and will consist of a spelling homework and a maths homework. Both of these will be linked to the learning we complete each week. The spelling homework will alternate between spelling rules taught each week and Year 3 and Year 4 common exception words. Please help and support your children with this.
Knowledge Organisers
Knowledge Organisers are a good way to give a brief outline of key words and facts that the children will come across. We share half termly knowledge organisers on class dojo.
Year 3 Spring 2 RE - Salvation
Year 3 Spring 2 Science - Light
Year 3 Spring 2 Art - Sculptures - Clay
Year 3 Spring 2 History - Ancient Egyptians
Long Term Planning
We have a wide range of curriculum learning.

PE
Children bring their PE kits to school and get changed at school.
Both Year 3 classes have PE on the following days - Monday (Indoor) and Tuesday (Outdoor)
Outdoor kit: red t-shirt/polo shirt, dark jogging bottoms, hoody, socks and trainers. Long hair should be tied back and earrings removed.
Indoor kit: red t-shirt/polo shirt, dark shorts, hoody.
Maths
TTRockstars is a fun way for children to consolidate their times tables. Please encourage your child to log on as this will improve their confidence and their fluency with their times tables. At the end of Year 4, all children are expected to know and recall all their times tables facts up to 12 x 12.
The children all login to REFLEX which helps support their multiplication and division skills as well as upskilling their addition and subtraction skills.
