Reception
Hello! A warm and smiley welcome to our class page. Here at Travis, we pride ourselves on delivering an exciting, engaging and relevant curriculum within a nurturing environment. The children learn through a combination of child led play and adult supported activities, which are carefully planned to link to each stage of your child's development.
Every child deserves the best possible start in life and the support that enables them to fulfil their potential. Children develop quickly in the early years and key stage one and a child’s experiences between birth and age five have a major impact on their future life chances. A secure, safe and happy childhood is important in its own right. Good parenting and high quality early learning together provide the foundation children need to make the most of their abilities and talents as they grow up. We have wonderful, spacious classrooms full of continuous provision and different play opportunities to help children to thrive and grow!
Our outdoor classroom is always popular and is fantastic fun! Come rain or shine you’ll find us learning outside, making dens, using the bikes and climbing equipment, going on nature walks, exploring the water and sand, outdoor literacy and numeracy, natural art... the list is endless! We love to be creative with lots of singing and art, and we love to help others and share. We also enjoy being independent in our learning and every day tasks.
As parents you play a vitally important role in your child's development. Our aim is to work in partnership with you and continuously develop as a team. If you have any questions, concerns or queries we are more than happy to answer these, either at the beginning or end of the day or through our effective communication tool Class Dojo.
We like to operate an open door policy and welcome everyone.

Reading and Vocabulary
Reading is at the heart of our learning and is embedded within all aspects of the school day. We take pride in helping the children on their journey to becoming confident readers. It is important that all children have their book bags in school everyday. The children will have opportunities daily to hear stories read by adults, this is very important as it instills the love of stories within children. Reading is an essential life skill and we strive to ensure every child is a reader. All reading books match the children's phonic knowledge so that children are confident with the books they are reading. We will regularly assess the children to ensure they are reading the correct reading stage.
We also go to the library once a week to choose a bed time book. This is a story to share with children and discover a love for reading. These books will help develop children's language and story telling.
