Travis St Lawrence CE Primary School

Foundation Stage Two

Mrs Oxby and Miss Oliver

Hello and a warm and smiley welcome to Foundation Stage 2! We have enjoyed welcoming the children back into school and helping them settle into full time! It is also fantastic to meet the children and families who are new to Travis. Our setting is very exciting. The children have the choice of a variety of activities throughout the classrooms and the outdoor area. We encourage the children to be independent learners: developing their skills across all seven areas of learning. We are very passionate about having fun and learning through exciting opportunities.

We have wonderful classroom areas full of continuous provision for us to use and you will always find us exploring new resources and doing our best in all the areas. There are lots of quiet and peaceful places for our children to have some quite time and reflect. Our outdoor classroom is always popular and is fantastic fun; come rain or shine you’ll find us learning outside learning more about our world. We love to be creative with lots of singing and art, we love to help others and share. The children in Foundation Stage 2 love to be independent and extending their own learning.

Over this half term our topic is "I am super!" We will be concentrating on Personal, Social and Emotional development, Health and Well-being. We believe that it is important to establish good relationships with peers and adults, develop fine motor and communication skills, preparing them for their next steps academically.

The children will be learning all about themselves and what makes them special and why they are super!

During this half term the children are mastering numbers to 10 in greater depth, using the vocabulary related to more, less, smaller and fewer. We will also be finding properties of 2D shapes.

Literacy and Phonics

In literacy our main stories will be, Mr Happy, My Friend Bear, Funny bones, Superpotato, Superworm and The little red hen. The children will be doing lots of different work such as Labels and Speech bubbles. The children will to be learning to form each grapheme (letter) correctly

Phonics happens daily within Foundation Stage Two and is aimed at the level of each child. We follow Read, Write Inc

Within F2, we ensure that reading is at the heart of our learning and is embedded within all aspects of the school day. We take pride in helping the children on their journey to becoming confident readers. It is important that all children have their book bags in school everyday. The children will have opportunities daily to hear stories read by adults, this is very important as it instills the love of stories within children. Reading is an essential life skill and we strive to ensure every child is a reader as they leave Foundation Stage two. All reading books match the children's phonics knowledge so that children are confident with they books they are reading. We will regularly assess the children to ensure they are reading the correct reading stage.
